Sian Eirian will leave the Urdd at the end of June after returning to the organisation temporarily in the summer of 2019.
Originally from Llan Ffestiniog, Llio won the Eisteddfod Crown at the 2014 Meirionnydd Urdd Eisteddfod - or her "home Eisteddfod" - in Bala. A writer and poet, she started with the Urdd at the end of 2014 as the Magazines Officer in the communications department. She moved to the Eisteddfod department the following year where she has worked as Assistant Organiser and Arts Organiser. Although she worked on Eisteddfodau all over Wales, her first Eisteddfod in Flintshire remains in the memory because it was the only Eisteddfod without rain - until this week!
Looking forward to the future, Llio said:
"The Urdd Eisteddfod is a festival that has a positive impact on the Welsh language in communities and areas throughout Wales, and it’s a great platform for young people to share their artistic work. This year the Urdd Eisteddfod has offered new areas and opportunities under the Urdd for All strategy, and I look forward to developing and highlighting this further in future Eisteddfodau.
"The Eisteddfod is in a strong place - we offer opportunities to young people to help develop their skills, and Triban Festival is a wonderful end to the week as we celebrate the best of Welsh culture. I'm looking forward to developing further opportunities through the arts, as well as new experiences throughout the year on a community level to help strengthen the creative industry in Wales for our children and young people.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Siân Eirian and Aled Sion - I have learnt so much under their guidance during my time with the Urdd. I hope I do justice to all their hard work. At the end of a successful Eisteddfod in Carmarthenshire, I’m looking forward to taking the lead and continuing to develop our artistic opportunities, by ensuring an Urdd for All throughout Wales."
