The Urdd helps Wales celebrate St David’s Day in style

The message of St David – to do the little things – has never been more important. We won’t be able to get together to celebrate our national day as usual.

But Urdd Gobaith Cymru will contribute to the array of digital festivities by hosting a series of virtual events that celebrate the Welsh language and culture.

The Urdd’s programme ranges from a football skills session in partnership with the Welsh women’s squad to a gig around the campfire at Glan-llyn Residential Centre. And although the Eisteddfodau won’t be filling concert halls worldwide this year, registration to compete in this year’s virtual Eisteddfod T will open on the 1st of March instead. Guto Harry will also be asking Siân Lewis (Urdd CEO) to look back at the past year and her vision for the organisation as it approaches its centenary in 2022.

1:30pm New version of Canwn Glod (Every Praise), a co-production between Urdd members and the University of Alabama at Birmingham Gospel Choir.

Sunday 28 February

2pm Practice your football skills with the Welsh women's squad. There is also an opportunity to win a shirt signed by the Welsh squad.

Monday 1 March

8am Registration for Eisteddfod T opens.

12:30pm ‘Rownd y Tân’ (Around the Fire) sing-along at Glan-llyn Residential Centre – 6 traditional songs with subtitles. An event for primary school children, via the Urdd’s YouTube channel.

7:30pm Enjoy a gig with Gwilym and Fleur De Lys, via the Urdd’s YouTube channel. In partnership with the Anglesey Young Farmers movement and Isle of Anglesey County Council.

Thursday 4 March

4pm Guto Harri interviews Siân Lewis (Chief Executive of the Urdd) as part of Wales Week London.
