Mali hails from Ebbw Vale, where she attended Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw. Mali was nominated for the high quality of her work and for her continued passion. Her manager Hannah Evans said of Mali that she "is extremely hard working and has excelled in her first few months as a Level 2 Sport, Leisure and Active Well-Being Apprentice. Mali is always willing to help and give everything a try. Mali's leadership skills within clubs have developed significantly within the last couple of months and we can see her passion for making a difference to the experiences of children attending our clubs. I look forward to seeing Mali continue to shine and grow during her apprenticeship. Keep it up Mali!"
Why did you decide to pursue an apprenticeship with the Urdd?
I decided to pursue an apprenticeship with the Urdd because of the opportunities it provided from its courses to develop skills in the world of sport. From a young age I've enjoyed sport and when I finished my sixth form studies, I wasn't clear about the work I wanted to pursue, but knew that University wasn’t for me. When I saw this opportunity with the Urdd, I knew I had to go for it!
What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship?
The thing I enjoy most about my apprenticeship is meeting new people who have the same interests as me, as well as the ability to encouragec hildren to get involved in sport.
What are your interests outside of work?
My interests outside of work are playing netball and spending time with friends.
In what way has developing your skills (Numeracy, Communication or Digital Literacy) contributed towards your apprenticeship?
Whilst carrying out my apprenticeship I have developed both my confidence and communication skills.
The apprenticeship has helped me develop my digital literacy whilst completing coursework on Word. I’ve also developed my communication skills by leading sports sessions and have developed my numeracy skills through completing WEST (the Welsh Government’s Essential Skills Toolkit) tasks.
What do you hope to do after completing the apprenticeship?
Whilst working as an apprentice over recent months and through completing courses and receiving qualifications, I have continually developed my skills and I am now well positioned to pursue different jobs. However, I would like to secure a role with the Urdd as a Coordinator, because I firmly identify with the Urdd’s values.
Briefly describe your duties.
My duty is to assist during sports sessions, which means that I assist session leaders, as well as provide support to the children during the lessons.
