Why did you decide to take up an apprenticeship with the Urdd?
The Urdd has been a big part of my life since I was young, from competing in many competitions when I was at School, attending the Eisteddfod annually, as well as volunteering at Clubs within the region. The Urdd offers a large number of different opportunities and experiences within the apprenticeship where you can develop many different skills on a daily basis within your work, and so I decided to do an Apprenticeship based on this.
What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship?
As part of my apprenticeship, I love running a number of different clubs, including school clubs as well as community clubs. Every club is always different and therefore seeing a number of children develop different skills within different sessions. As well as this, my favourite part is our regional and national competitions, I like to see the competitive element as children represent their schoolsat these competitions.
What does undertaking an apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh mean to you?
Growing up within a Welsh-speaking community, undertaking an apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh is vital to me, and I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to be able to continue to use the language on a daily basis within my work. It is vital that young people get opportunities to be able to study through the medium of Welsh and so I am delighted that our institution is able to provide this.
What are your interests outside of work?
Within my free time outside of work, I love hanging out with my family and friends. I also like playing and watching a number of different sports especially Football and Netball. I play football for Cascade Club and then play and coach the young players at Gilfach netball club.
In what way has doing the apprenticeship affected your personal development?
Since starting my apprenticeship, I believe I have developed a number of different skills particularly my confidence to be able to lead creative sessions on a daily basis.
What do you hope to do after completing the apprenticeship?
I would like to continue to develop my understanding and skills within this sector.
Briefly describe your duties.
As part of my role I am expected to be able to run fun and creative clubs for children within our school clubs as well as community clubs. In addition to this I helped in regional and national Competitions.
