Catrina comes from a village called Cadoxton in Neath Port Talbot and attended Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. Here’s a little about her story!
Why did you decide to take on an apprenticeship with the Urdd?
I decided to do this apprenticeship after enjoying volunteering with the Urdd’s Sports Department for 4 years whilst I was in school. I love coaching sports and seeing children develop their skills and confidence.
What do you enjoy most about the apprenticeship?
I enjoy many aspects of the apprenticeship, but what I enjoy most is coaching children and seeing them develop as they attend clubs, sports camps and competitions. I feel very proud when I see them build confidence and enjoying being part of the Urdd.
What do you think about undertaking an apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh?
I feel so lucky to be part of the Urdd and to be able to work and do my apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh. It allows me to improve my Welsh, but more than that, I love being able to help with the children's Welsh, influence them and be some sort of model for them.
What are your interests outside of work?
Outside of work I love sports and being part of a local athletics club and spending time with family and friends.
How has doing the apprenticeship affected your personal development?
The apprenticeship has helped me develop a lot, especially with my confidence. It has also helped with situations that I would normally have avoided and helped me to be more responsible within my work but also in situations outside of work.
What are you hoping to do after completing the apprenticeship?
After completing the apprenticeship, I hope to be able to go on to get a job with the Urdd and carry on training to develop my own skills, as well as the children's skills.
Briefly describe your duties.
As an apprentice, it is my job to run a variety of clubs around Neath Port Talbot, plan for clubs and complete NVQ work.
