Jasmine Morgan

APPRENTICE OF THE MONTH

November 2021

Jasmine Morgan is an apprentice studying ‘Children’s Care, Play, Learning and Development’, through an exciting partnership between the Mudiad Meithrin and the Urdd! Jasmine is from Llanbedr Gwynedd and works at Llanbedr nursery. Here is a chat we had about her apprenticeship and her work at the nursery.

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship with the Mudiad Meithrin?

I decided to do the course because it's something I've wanted to do for a long time and it’s in the right direction to my ideal job, of being a nursery assistant. I also felt that doing the course with Mudiad Meithrin in Welsh would help me become more confident with the Welsh language.

What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

The best thing about my job is I can help the children develop through different ways of playing. I also see the children developing ready for their next chapter in life. Doing my apprenticeship helps me understand everything I need to know about my job, and it helps me understand my job role in more detail.

How important is it to do your apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh?

Doing my apprenticeship in Welsh helps me become more confident with the Welsh language. It also helps me learn more about the Welsh language and culture as well.

What are you hoping to do after completing the apprenticeship?

After completing my apprenticeship, I would like to continue in my job and work in the nursery full time. I would also like to help more at the nursery.

How has doing the apprenticeship affected your personal development?

Doing the apprenticeship has helped me develop a greater knowledge of child development through play.

What are your interests outside of work?

When I'm not working, I like spending time with my son and family, listening to music, going for a walk and reading a book in the bath.

Would you like to add something to your story?

I didn't think I would be able to do the apprenticeship because of my son, other commitments and also my lack of confidence in the Welsh language. Once I worked out a schedule, I was able to spend time with my son, and also do my job. As I continue my course, I feel that I have developed a lot and gained my confidence back a little.
