Apprentices of the Month - October 2019
Lowri a Nia from Ysgol Llanilar
Nia and Lowri are teaching assistants at Ysgol Llanilar. Both were chosen as ‘Apprentices of the Month’ because of their enthusiasm, commitment and excellent progress within their apprenticeship.
They are working towards a Level 3 apprenticeship in 'Sports Development'. Both were keen to develop skills and to undertake new and exciting challenges within their roles at the school. Since beginning the apprenticeship, both have been able to confidently run various sports sessions for the pupils at their school.
Nia said that the opportunity has - “improved my understanding and skills in school sports. The assessment process is very useful, I enjoy being observed as I receive feedback on how to improve.”
Lowri also feels that she's benefited greatly from the apprenticeship. She said -
“I feel that I’ve developed personally and learned a wide range of new skills. There are very few opportunities like this - to do a course and gain a qualification while continuing your job. It’s great that I get to practice what I learn on the course within my role at the school."
After completing their apprenticeship, Nia and Lowri are excited to continue running sports session and clubs with confidence within the school. They believe that the apprenticeship has not only developed them personally but has also had a positive effect on the school. They also see that the children are benefiting greatly from the new skills that they as individuals have developed.
