A Chat with Rhys Jones
Apprentice of the month, November 2022
Rhys is from Caerphilly and attended Cwrt Rawlin Primary School and then St Martins Secondary School, and is now completing a Level 2 Sports Leadership apprenticeship in GLL Leisure Centre Cardiff.
Why did you decide to take a Sports apprenticeship with the Urdd?
I always enjoyed doing physical work and found this apprenticeship to be the perfect programme for myself.
What do you enjoy most about your job and how does the apprenticeship effect your job?
The main thing I enjoy about my job is working with co-workers and learning more by increasing my confidence through the job.
What does taking on an apprenticeship through the medium of Welsh mean to you?
As I live in Wales, I think it’s good that we can learn the language and improve our language skills every day.
What are your interests outside the workplace?
I enjoy going to the gym, the cinema, going out with friends and getting myself outdoors.
In what way does completing an apprenticeship effect your personal development?
This apprenticeship has managed to help me build my confidence, my people skills and understanding of the role of the job. Overall, I am better from it.
What do you hope to do after completing your apprenticeship?
To stick with the career path of something physical, work in a gym or become a Personal Trainer.
Describe your responsibilities.
My responsibilities are – lifeguard in the pool, keep the facilities clean and overall be professional.
