Are you interested in coaching and working in the outdoor sector?
The Urdd offer apprenticeships in the Outdoor sector across the Country, giving an opportunity for apprentices work and train with the Urdd’s experienced staff.
What is the scheme?
The Outdoor Apprenticeship Scheme offers an opportunity for individuals over 17 years old to earn professional qualifications and experience within the Outdoor sector. We have a team of experienced assessors to guide learners through the course and to ensure they succeed. It’s a flexible and varied scheme that can be adjusted to suit the best technique of learning for you and your working pattern.
You can complete the apprenticeship internally with the Urdd, meaning being employed by the Urdd as a member of staff and working in the Llangrannog and Glan Llyn residential centre, but you can also complete the apprenticeship and continue with your current job (an external apprenticeship).
The scheme is suitable for individuals who carry out outdoor sessions / activities or are eager to do so.
We have many external apprentices who work in outdoor centres across Wales. It’s a great opportunity to offer professional development to the workplace, and to offer something exciting to your staff. The scheme is offered across Wales.
What is the difference between an internal and external apprenticeship?
Simply, an internal apprenticeship is when an individual is employed by the Urdd directly. We have opportunities across Wales to be an internal apprentice.
An external apprenticeship is when you already work in a job where you work with children and young people and complete the course as you continue with your job.
Who can take part and what's the expectations?
Internal Apprenticeship: Individuals over the age of 18 can take part and we have opportunities across Wales. We expect you to have an interest in the outdoors and ready to work with children and young people. The applicant will also need to travel independently from place to place along with the job’s requirements.
The successful candidate will spend time developing with the Urdd Outdoor Activities Department. There will be an opportunity for every apprentice to learn from experienced staff and lead activities from a high standard for children and young people.
External Apprentices: The scheme is suitable for individuals over the age of 18 who work with children and/ or young people who carry out physical education/ outdoor activities or are eager to do so. The individuals must be working for 16hours+ per week.
We are always looking for new individuals, schools and centres to take part. We have many external apprentices who work in schools as classroom assistants who want to develop their skills and earn qualifications. We also have external apprentices who work in outdoor centres and sport centres, in dance schools and other specific sports. It’s a great opportunity to offer continuous professional development for your workplace, and to offer something exciting for your staff. The scheme is offered across Wales.
