Slovakia Trip: Chwarae yn Gymraeg 2024
A group from the Urdd flew to Slovakia to meet local students in Poprad, having a fantastic time sharing Welsh culture and language through fun activities. The first location was Stredná Športová Škola high school, where everyone enjoyed a sports session conducted in Welsh – along with a few Welsh language lessons. Everyone had a great time and enjoyed hearing and using some Welsh words.
Later, similar sessions were held at Základná škola for younger children, who were thrilled to learn about Wales while we learned a lot about Slovakia too. The schools were incredibly welcoming and appreciative of the Urdd's visit. Some of the primary school children even joined the Urdd group to support the Welsh women's team in Poprad – huge thanks to the FAW for tickets for everyone.
Unfortunately, the Welsh women's team lost 2-0 in the previous game, but they’re ready to fight again in the crucial European Championship qualifying match. After a dramatic game in Cardiff on the 29 of October, Wales won 2-0 and have now gone through to the Euro play-offs.
The trip has been full of fun for the young people of the Urdd and has been an incredible opportunity to share Welsh culture and introduce the Welsh language in a new area and country.
Thank you to TAITH for funding this trip.
