In partnership with Welsh Government and FAW, the Urdd joined Team Wales 2022 in order to help take our country to the world and support our national football team at the World Cup. An Urdd Choir also traveled out to Qatar in partnership with Wales Arts International.
Between the 13th and 21st of November, a team of 10 Urdd staff and young ambassadors held arts and sports session at schools in Doha, Qatar and Dubai. Through these sessions, Wales, our language, culture and country was introduced to a new audience for the first time. The sessions offered children the opportunity to learn and play together, offering equal opportunities for all children.
An international day was held during one of the school visits. One of the Urdd's young ambassadors said:
"Visiting the school during its international day was a wonderful experience, learning more about the difference between our traditions and culture here in Wales and that of different cultures from around the world."
As part of the Team Wales celebrations for the 2022 World Cup, Ffrion Pritchard, an artist from Wales, traveled to the USA's capitol city to represent the Urdd.
In partnership with Welsh Government and the Soccer in the Circle event, Ffion and a local artist, Matt Malone, created a piece of art that represented the Urdd, Wales and empowering young people. The painting was then displayed in Dupont Circle during the Wales v USA match on the 21st of November.
Another project as part of Wales' celebrations in the 2022 World Cup was the Dyffryn Clwyd Choir's trip to Qatar.
Thanks to the partnership with Wales Arts International, the choir had the wonderful opportunity to perform in a number of events before the games in Doha, including two performances of 'Yma o Hyd' with Dafydd Iwan for the Welsh fans.
