In June 2023 the University of Alabama's (UAB) Gospel Choir travelled to Wales to perform and learn more about the country's history, language and culture.
The choir experienced the capital city and stayed at the Urdd's Residential Camp in Cardiff Bay. During their stay the visited visited Cardiff Castle, the city center and St Fagans. They also had the opportunity to perform for the First Minister of Wales at an event in the Senedd, and in the Butetown Community Centre.
On Saturday, the choir travelled to the National Urdd Eisteddfod in Llandovery to perform for young people in Wales and to enjoy the festival. They performed with Mared Williams in the Garddorfa as part of a gospel workshop, and then on the main stage where they sang three gospel songs in Welsh to a number of Urdd choirs.
The choir spent one night in Aberystwyth to visit the university, perform on the promenade and visit the National Library.
To conclude the trip they performed in a joint concert with Aelwyd y Waun Ddyfal in Salem Chapel, Cardiff. A full audience and an unforgettable night, with many experiencing live gospel for the first time.
