What is an Aquathlon?

Aquathlon (Swim / Run) is a derivative of Triathlon (Swim/ Bike/ Run). Often regarded as the stepping stone into triathlon it requires little or no specific triathlon apparel or expensive equipment, such as a bike. Aquathlons provide quick and exciting, multisport racing.  Competitors swim a set distance, exit the pool to a Transition area where they will put on running shoes and a top with their number pinned to it. They will then go straight out to run a set distance (usually on a grass or tarmac course). The clock runs continuously from the start of the swim to the end of the run, with the transition time included.

Details / Basic Rules

Swim - Competitors will need a swimming costume and goggles. Competitors may swim in fitted shorts if they wish but any loose fitting clothes will slow the swimmer down. Any swim stroke except butterfly is permitted with front crawl being the usual option. Competitors may stand or rest on the bottom, but may not gain unfair advantage or make progress by other means than swimming . Competitors are told when they have 2 lengths to go and when to exit the pool.

Transition - Competitors will have their running shoes (no bare feet) and running top / t-shirt (with number pinned on the front) laid out ready in the transition area. They will put on their shoes and top as quickly as possible and can then run straight out to the run course. Short are not always worn but it is a good idea to have a towel to wipe your feet on.

NO OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE IS ALLOWED AY ANY TIME e.g. Help with putting on shoes or clothing, pacing athletes, etc.
