A little about the magazine’s history

The first Welsh-language magazine for children was published in 1892. Called Cymru’r Plant (Wales’ Children), it was written by O.M. Edwards. By 1922, the magazine was being edited by his son, Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards.

In 1922, Sir Ifan wrote a letter in Cymru’r Plant inviting children across Wales to join a new movement called Urdd Gobaith Cymru Fach (The Welsh League of Youth) … and that marked the beginning of the Urdd!

In 1987, it was decided to change the title of Cymru’r Plant, and the Urdd’s magazine became known as Cip.
