Glan-llyn Isa’ is perfectly suited for outdoor activities that would make use of the area’s natural resources, that could be provided by experienced instructors at Glan-llyn. It is also suitable for residential use only.

Discover the accommodation and facilities available at Glan-llyn Isa.

There is accommodation for 40 people at Glan-llyn Isa’, divided into 10 bedrooms – 4 bedrooms on the ground floor and 6 bedrooms on the first floor.

Toilets and showers are shared and located on both floors. The beds are a combination of single beds, bunk beds, and 4 double bed options, with rooms ranging from single rooms to 8 beds.

Kitchen facilities at Glan-llyn Isa’ are suitable for catered or self-catered options, while the communal area (Lolfa Prys) accommodates 36 people to eat and relax. There is a TV and a wood burner in the lounge, and Wi-Fi is available throughout the centre.

There is a spacious garden to the rear of the house which includes sheltered seating areas, a dining area, an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven, barbecue, fridge and sink, as well as stunning views of the local area.

There is a parking area at the front of the house for cars and minibuses, but visitors are asked to register at Glan-llyn’s main centre before moving on to Glan-llyn Isa’.

A drying room, luggage store and outdoor equipment store is available for use.

History

Until the 1940s the houses and farms of the Llanuwchllyn area were part of the Glan-llyn estate owned by Sir Watkin Williams Wynne. Glan-llyn Hall (Y Plas) was used as a ‘shooting box’ by Sir Watkin’s friends, and Glan-llyn Isa’ was the estate steward’s home, with estate tenants going there to pay their rents.

When Glan-llyn came into the care of Urdd Gobaith Cymru in the 1950s, Glan-llyn Isa’ was used as accommodation for boys (with the girls sleeping at the Plas) From the 1960s onwards Glan-llyn Isa’ was used as a home for Glan-llyn staff and their families, and over a period of over 50 years many scores of centre staff have lived there.

Bringing Glan-llyn Isa’ back into residential use has brought the building back to its first use by the Urdd in the early days of Gwersyll Glan-llyn.
