How would you like to help?

Every year, thousands of people volunteer their time to support Urdd activities.

As Eisteddfod adjudicators, football coaches, singing teachers, parents, local branch leaders, teachers, older members and much more… without your help the Urdd would not exist in its current form, and we are truly grateful for this contribution.

You can volunteer with:

Help run a local branch, youth group, lunchtime club or after-school club.

Support a club, lead an activity or help at a sports competition or event.

Welcome visitors, support competitions or help with performances and local or national Eisteddfodau.

Join a SWOG volunteer team and help young people enjoy a memorable summer camp.

Support day trips, overseas visits or humanitarian projects when opportunities are available.

Collect photographs, videos and stories, or help the team run events across Wales.

You don’t need a coaching qualification to start assisting at a local club. You can work alongside Urdd staff and apprentices, gain experience and gain access to training or qualifications.

FAQs

Individuals over the age of 14 can volunteer for the Urdd across Wales. Opportunities vary with age and more responsibilities are given as you get older.

No previous qualifications or experience are required to volunteer with the Urdd. There are many volunteering opportunities where experience/qualifications are not required including the Urdd Eisteddfod, local clubs, sports clubs and much more.

However, if you have a sports coaching qualification, there will be more opportunities and responsibilities available to coach children and young people in our clubs.

The sports department offers three volunteering pathways, which are the Bronze, Silver and Gold Pathways. Within each pathway there are opportunities to receive sports training and qualificiations.

The minimum number of voluntary hours required for each pathway in order to receive sports training and qualifications is:

  • Bronze pathway – 15 hours
  • Silver pathway – 30 hours
  • Gold pathway – 45 hours

  • Residential centres (Llangrannog, Glan-llyn or Cardiff)
  • Art activities
  • Local clubs
  • Local Eisteddfods
  • National Eisteddfod
  • Youth Forums
