Playing in Welsh / Chwarae yn Gymraeg

To support and encourage the use of the Welsh language through the school. – ‘Lead by pupils and enjoyed by pupils’

16 pupils from your school will receive a Chwarae yn Gymraeg workshop with experienced staff from the Urdd Sports Department during the school day allowing pupils to become Chwarae yn Gymraeg Ambassadors within your school.

The Chwarae yn Gymraeg Ambassadors will receive the relevant resources to allow them to lead Chwarae yn Gymraeg sessions independently on the school yard, while supporting and encouraging the use of the Welsh language through sport to their friends and peers.

  • 4-hour workshop for up to 16 pupils from Year 5/6
  • 10 sets of game cards
  • Set of cones, ball, stickers, certificates, and bag

  • Support and encourage the use of the Welsh language through sport
  • Learning in a fun and engaging environment that develops pupils’ language skills
  • Raise the profile of the Welsh language on the school yard
  • Promotes physical literacy outside the classroom
  • Allows pupils to take ownership of their learning

Chwarae yn Gymraeg costs £295 per school

The Urdd’s

Urdd Gobaith Cymru, Wales’ largest youth organisation has travelled to Ireland to deliver Chwarae yn Gymraeg (‘Playing in Welsh’) sessions at a primary school in Belarmine, Dublin as part of the organisation’s St David’s Day 2023 celebrations.
