Outdoor Adventure Week

Looking for an exciting way to complete the Residential section of your Gold DofE Award? Our Outdoor Adventure Week is designed to help you develop new skills, build confidence, meet new people, and enjoy unforgettable experiences.

Who’s it for?

Young people aged 16+ who wish to complete the Residential section of their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Trying something new or building on skills you already have, you’ll be encouraged to work as part of a team and develop valuable life skills.

Further details about the week

Throughout the week, you will take part in a variety of challenging activities led by experienced instructors.

  • 26 – 30 October 2026 (5 days / 4 nights)
  • Gwersyll yr Urdd Glan-llyn (near Y Bala, Eryri National Park)

  • Mountaineering – Explore stunning landscapes and develop navigation, teamwork, and mountain safety skills.
  • Paddleboarding or Canoeing – Build confidence on the water while learning new techniques.
  • Climbing – Challenge yourself on natural rock faces and climbing walls while developing resilience and problem-solving skills.
  • Bushcraft – Learn essential outdoor living skills, including shelter building, fire lighting, and campcraft.

All specialist equipment required for the activities will be provided, ensuring you have access to high-quality, appropriately maintained kit throughout the week.

If you have your own equipment, such as a wetsuit, you are welcome to bring and use it. However, for safety reasons, our instructors may ask you to use Glan-llyn’s equipment instead if they feel it is more suitable for the activity, conditions, or group requirements. Our priority is to ensure that everyone can take part safely and comfortably while getting the most from their experience.

A packing list will be shared with you prior to the residential week.

  • New outdoor and adventure skills
  • Greater confidence and independence
  • Opportunities to meet like-minded young people
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • A memorable and rewarding experience while completing your Gold DofE Residential

During your residential week, you will stay in one of our comfortable accommodation blocks at Glan-llyn. We have several accommodation options available, each offering comfortable bedrooms, a communal lounge, and kitchen facilities.

You may stay in Tŷ Eirys, located near the shores of Llyn Tegid, or Glan-llyn Isa, a self-contained accommodation block situated slightly away from the main camp. Both options provide a welcoming and comfortable environment where you can relax after a full day of activities.

All meals are provided throughout the course, with nutritious and balanced food to keep you energised for the adventures ahead. We can cater for a wide range of dietary requirements if notified in advance.

Accommodation for each course will be allocated based on the size and makeup of the groups attending during the week. Your accommodation details will be confirmed on your first day.
