1. Create a Porth account

The first step is to create an account and a profile on our online system, Y Porth. This is where you manage your account with us, become members, and book competitions.

2. Become a member of the Urdd

After creating an account and profile within ‘Y Porth’, you can become an Urdd member yourself (if over 16 years of age) or register your children as Urdd members.

3. Choose your competition/s

The Syllabus includes all 350+ Eisteddfod competitions, whether they’re performing on stage, Homework, CogUrdd or Art, Design and Technology. Each competition will note its piece, including where you can order or receive them.

4. Register online via Y Porth

Registration for all competitions can be done through your account on Y Porth. You can register individual competitions as a parent, but the school/branch will need to register duet and group competitions.

Look for important dates such as competition entry deadlines. Make a note of these dates so you don’t miss out!

6. Competing Rounds

The Eisteddfod is split into three rounds, one local, one regional, and one national.

  • Dates for the Eisteddfod Cylch will be available through the School/Branch, social media or contact your Community Officer.
  • Rhagbrofion/Rhagbrawf are held for most individual competitions (if not otherwise indicated by the Community Officer)
  • What are Rhagbrofion/Rhagbrawf? This is a round of competition ahead of the Eisteddfod. Because of high number of competitors, 3 will be selected to perform again. This is NOT the result of the competition!
  • These 3 names will be announced and displayed in a specified area of the Rhagbrofion venue, and will be re-performed on the stage of the Eisteddfod Cylch.
  • Depending on your region, the 1st, and perhaps 2nd and 3rd, will go on to the Regional Eisteddfod.
  • Each individual contestant will be awarded a ‘Da iawn ti’ certificate, which will include brief comments about the performance.
  • The top 3 will receive a Certificate and full adjudication.

  • Dates for the Eisteddfod Rhanbarth will be available through the School/Branch, social media, or contact your Community Officer.
  • The Eisteddfod is usually held in a local Village Hall, School or Theatre.
  • A few Regions hold Rhagbrofion, following the same process as the Eisteddfod Cylch.
  • The winner from each competition is invited to the National Eisteddfod. (if not otherwise stated)
  • The top 3 will receive a Certificate and full Adjudication.

  • The Urdd’s National Eisteddfod travels the whole of Wales.
  • If victorious at the Regional Eisteddfod, you are invited to compete at National level, on one of the festival’s main stages.
  • A specific schedule is created. This schedule is available a few weeks before the Eisteddfod, setting out the date, time and place of the competition.
  • Following the competition, the result will be announced on the Cyfrwy (Saddle) Stage (results platform), where the first 3 will receive their certificates and medals.
  • A full adjudication is available for all competitors from the Eisteddfod Office following the result.

Geraint George Scholarship

This scholarship was established by the Natural Resources Wales and the Snowdonia National Park Authority in memory of Geraint George, who was an environmentalist, educator and enthusiastic communicator.

This scholarship was established by the Natural Resources Wales and the Snowdonia National Park Authority in memory of Geraint George, who was an environmentalist, educator and enthusiastic communicator. He loved working with young people, encourage them to ask questions and form opinions about the environment around them and was very keen to see people discuss environmental issues and consider their heritage within an international context.

The aim of the scholarship, which is open to individuals age 18 – 25, is to maintain exceptional communicators who may be able to help people in Wales and beyond to appreciate the natural world and the factors which affect it.

We invite competitors to send in communicative work in any format and on any environmental subjects relating to Wales.

The winner can choose between:

  1. A week’s visit to the Trigav National Park in Slovenia where there will be an opportunity to learn about the work there and to take part in some activities.
  2. Attend the Europark conference which is held in different parts of Europe each year, where there is the opportunity to learn about what is happening in the different countries and visit some sites.
