Our offer

Our Essential Skills Hub was established to ensure that learners across Wales have the option to develop their communication, numeracy and digital literacy skills through the medium of Welsh or bilingually, while receiving the highest standard of training and teaching experience.

Essential Skills qualifications are suitable for individuals in a variety of situations—whether for personal development, improving employability skills, progressing in their career, or meeting the requirements of a qualification or training programme.

Usually, the level of Essential Skills (ESW) qualification required depends on the level and content of the training programme or wider qualification the individual is undertaking.

The Business Development Team can advise you on the appropriate ESW levels for any programme or skills development pathway.

Every apprenticeship programme includes elements of Essential Skills. The HWB has specialists who help apprentices and individuals develop their communication, numeracy and digital literacy skills through the medium of Welsh or bilingually.

Depending on your previous qualifications, you may be required to complete certain Essential Skills qualifications as part of an apprenticeship programme. Our friendly and specialist team will guide you every step of the way.

Essential Skills qualifications are a way of strengthening the workforce’s communication, numeracy and digital literacy skills to ensure they are competent and confident in carrying out associated tasks.

Other members of your workforce can also complete Essential Skills qualifications if you wish to support their skills and confidence development.

Providers can refer learners to the Urdd to complete Essential Skills qualifications entirely through the Hub, through creating a strong partnership or subcontracting arrangement.

We have a competitive pricing structure and are open to consider an arrangement that works for you.

If you provide Essential Skills through the medium of Welsh already but need support in any way to allow your learners to succeed, we can meet to discuss ways we can support you.

Your learners could access our workshops, have access to our resources or you could receive our tutors’ expertise through marking work to support your provision.
