What you need to do to complete the Gold expedition

To successfully complete your Gold expedition with the Urdd, there’s a few keys steps: 

 

Secure your place by registering online and paying a deposit. The remaining balance must be paid before the first training day. 

Participation in the training day is essential, regardless of your previous experience. This ensures you receive the correct training and all the important information you’ll need to fully prepare for the expeditions. 

We will be discussing routes and route cards for the expeditions in the training day. We expect a set of route cards (1 per day) to be completed for the practice expedition and for the qualifying expedition. These are compulsory and count towards your assessment.  

These requirements are set out by the Duke of Edinburgh, so all expeditions are run to a high standard. These requirements include:

  • Walking as a group of 4-7 members
  • Creating a meal plan and daily route cards for each expdition
  • Agreeing on a group aim to complete during the expeditions
  • Being self-sufficient for the entire expedition (walking is your mode of transport)
  • Camping overnight in a tent
