The Urdd’s #FelMerch visit to India – February 2027

Following the success of the Urdd’s #FelMerch (translates to ‘Like a Girl’) visits to Kolkata, India, in 2025 and 2026, Urdd Gobaith Cymru is delighted to once again offer a unique opportunity for 10 young women aged 18–25, who are Urdd members, to visit Kolkata for two weeks in February 2027.

The visit will be organised in partnership with Her Future Coalition – a charity that works in India to make positive changes in the lives of women and girls who have been, or are at risk of being, trafficked into the sex trade. The charity aims to break the cycle of poverty by providing education, training, and support services to help girls build a safer and brighter future.

During the visit, the young women will have the opportunity to engage directly with communities in some of the most disadvantaged areas of India. The schedule will be packed with unforgettable experiences.

Her Future Coalition will work closely with the Urdd to organise the visit and activities, ensuring that the young women work in a safe and supportive environment. Participants will have the opportunity to make a real difference, develop a deeper understanding of global issues, and gain a life-changing personal experience that will inspire them for years to come.

Monday 15 February – Friday 26 February 2027

This visit will be fully funded by the Welsh Government and Urdd Gobaith Cymru.

A huge thank you to the Welsh Government for supporting the project once again this year.

There will be no direct cost to participants for travel, accommodation, food or insurance – making this a truly unique and valuable opportunity.

Successful applicants will be expected to attend a residential weekend at the Urdd’s Residential Centre in Cardiff on 28 and 29 November 2026.

The workshop will begin at 9am on Saturday 28 November, with the option to stay at the Urdd’s Residential Centre in Cardiff on Friday 27 November.

This will be an opportunity to:

  • Get to know the other members of the group
  • Discuss logistics and any concerns
  • Take part in practical and cultural preparation workshops

As part of the Urdd’s partnership with Her Future Coalition, the young women taking part in the visit will be expected to organise a fundraising campaign before travelling.

  • The money raised will be donated directly to the charity during the visit – making a real difference to the communities where the group will be working.
  • Over the past two years, the group has successfully raised more than £13,000, helping to provide essential resources, learning materials and support services for girls and children in vulnerable situations.
  • Support and practical ideas will be available from the Urdd to help the group raise money in a creative, fun and meaningful way.

This opportunity is available to:

  • 10 young women
  • Who are Urdd members
  • Aged between 18 and 25 on both the first and last day of the visit.

Tianna’s Diary – CIP

Once again this year, ten young women from the Urdd had the opportunity to travel on a humanitarian visit to India, continuing to strengthen the close relationship with the Her Future Coalition charity. The charity works to build a bright and independent future for survivors and the most vulnerable girls in India and Nepal. Since 2005, Her Future has been creating powerful change by breaking the cycle of poverty and exploitation, providing education and the essential services that enable them to build safer and more secure lives. 

This is the second year the visit has taken place, and we are very grateful to the Welsh Government for funding it once again.
