Who we are and what we do?

We are Urdd Gobaith Cymru. Wales’s largest youth organisation. Our aim is to ensure opportunities and experiences, through the Welsh language, for the young people of Wales to develop into confident citizens.

We are a unique organisation where the Welsh language is central to our service, and which responds to the demands of children and young people today. There is nothing like it in the world and we are recognised internationally for leading the way in successful youth provision through a minority language.

The experiences we offer range from community and sports to youth work, arts, residential, humanitarian, outdoor, international, apprenticeships, training and volunteering.

Over 4.5 million young people in Wales have benefited from our services over the last century.

The Urdd and the Welsh language

Welsh is the language of all the Urdd’s provision, and the ethos is learning through activities and experiences that immerses learners in a friendly Welsh environment where Welsh is a living language.

All our activities offer a safe environment to use the Welsh language, whatever the standard. Socialising through the medium of Welsh offers an opportunity to become familiar with the natural, everyday use of the language.
